New Tour, New Single, New Album, Coming Soon. Listen to our music!
Backwater Township is Indigenous-led jazz rooted in groove, joy, and connection.
Founded by Mi'gmaq bassist and composer Corey Thomas in 2017, the band has released four albums and performed at some of Canada's most celebrated stages — including the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, Festival Jazz et Blues de Saguenay, and Festival Présence Autochtone. Their music has been featured on CBC Radio and Spotify's Fresh Finds Jazz. In 2026, Backwater Township returns with a new album and an east coast tour.
